Motion text
That this House is alarmed that Mehran Raoof, a 70 year old British-Iranian labour rights activist, has been arbitrarily detained in Iran and convicted on national security charges after what Amnesty and others describe as a grossly unfair trial; is aware of recent reports from Evin Prison, where Mehran is imprisoned, which describe power cuts, loss of hot water, medicine shortages, staff absence, and no meaningful access to medical care amid the current war; calls on the Government to do all it can to explore the options to secure Mehran’s release including parole or transfer into British Embassy care, as France was able to secure for its citizens, Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris; and further calls on the Foreign Secretary to treat the securing of Mehran’s release as a matter of urgency.
