Energy, water and digital infrastructure investment in Scotland

Motion text

That this Parliament notes the importance of creating stronger, better connected and more resilient communities across Scotland; recognises that ScottishPower, SSE, Scottish Water and Openreach have recently set out £46 billion of investment in the country’s infrastructure between 2025-2030; understands the investment in electricity, water and digital infrastructure will unlock economic growth, putting an estimated more than £32 billion into supply chains in Scotland and supporting more than 27,000 jobs; notes the importance of growing and supporting the workforce through early career opportunities, retraining and upskilling to ensure Scotland has the right skills, talent and expertise to deliver and maintain these infrastructure investments; welcomes commitments to putting communities at the heart of these investment plans, with almost £350 million in community benefit planned to deliver lasting positive impacts; further notes a commitment from the companies to working with local people to deliver the best possible outcomes that focus on progress for the greater good; and further welcomes that the environment will also be a key consideration with projects taking a nature positive approach that will see more than 14,700 hectares of land restored to nature.
