Motion text

That this House notes that Government are consulting on the use of physical restraint techniques to be applied to children during the removal process in the asylum system, including the handcuffing, carrying and physically handling of a child, which is well recognised as inducing psychological trauma to a child; therefore calls on the Government to immediately withdraw such considerations, instead providing a safeguarding approach to children in the asylum system, treating them with dignity and care and engaging with their distressed forms of communication, including refusal to comply with officers in the system; and condemns such considerations of promoting the use of physical restraint to children.
