The Right Rev. Lord Harries of Pentregarth

That this House notes with the greatest sadness the death of the Right Rev. Lord Harries of Pentregarth on 29 April 2026 at the age of 89; gives thanks for his remarkable service to the Church and to public life in the UK and across the Commonwealth and particularly for his commitment to interfaith understanding through which he co-founded the Oxford Abrahamic Group and chaired the Council of Christians and Jews; recognises his service as Bishop of Oxford for nearly two decades from 1987 to 2006 and, latterly, his appointment to the House of Lords; acknowledges his many writings on faith, ethics and the arts, and his frequent contributions to Thought for the Day on Radio 4 over the years; and extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the late Right Rev. Lord Harries of Pentregarth.
