Motion text

That this House regrets that the Home Secretary will not say how much money has been spent providing police protection for Salman Rushdie; assumes therefore, that the published estimate of ú5 million is accurate; and demands to know how much more taxpayers' money will be spent protecting Mr Rushdie from the consequences of his own actions before Mr Rushdie is prepared to show due contrition for the distress his book, The Satanic Verses, has caused to Muslims throughout the world.
