Motion text
That this House congratulates Cheltenham constituent David Tennant for his recent successful legal action to claim compensation for damages to his vehicle by a pothole; understands that David’s vehicle sustained over £500 of damages in January 2024 due to falling into a dangerous section of Moorend Park Road; notes that David’s claim to the local authority was initially denied; commends David’s tenacity in pursuing compensation through small claims court; recognises the importance of David’s success as a testament to the everyday difficulties that people across the UK face with the deteriorating condition of roads; appreciates David’s concern about the cost to the taxpayer of councils’ employment of specialist legal advisers and barristers to fight claims for pothole damages; and commits to continuing to work locally and nationally to improve infrastructure and daily experiences of towns.
