That this House congratulates the residents of the village of Burnhope, County Durham, on the Centenary Celebration of the 1926 occasion when Burnhope hosted 40,000 people at the only Durham Miners’ Gala ever to be held outside of Durham City; commends the organisers of the 15-17 May 2026 Burnhope celebration on their magnificent parade, Gala and other events; remembers the struggle for justice of the miners of Burnhope, of County Durham and of the wider country in the 1926 General Strike in the face of longer hours for less pay; and celebrates the miners’ values of solidarity, social justice, trade unionism and community.
