That this House notes the upcoming 500th anniversary of the Battle of Linlithgow Bridge, fought on 4 September 1526; welcomes the extensive year-long programme of community events organised by Battle 500; recognises the contribution of the Linlithgow Civic Trust in convening local organisations, historians, performers and volunteers to create an inclusive programme for residents of all ages; commends the variety of activities scheduled from lectures by historians to performances by the Linlithgow Players; further commends the efforts of historical storytelling displayed at the Spectacular Jousting at Linlithgow Palace, the summer performances by the Linlithgow Arts Guild and Edinburgh Renaissance Band, and the special exhibition at Linlithgow Museum; observes a commemoration ceremony will take place at the Lennox Cairn involving local schools and community groups; highlights that events will culminate with a full re-enactment of the battle, co-ordinated by the Scottish Battlefields Trust, featuring a medieval camp and demonstrations of 16th-century cooking and weaponry; and also commends the Battle 500 organisers and the wider community for bringing rich local history to life.
