Steel import tariffs and further education colleges

That this House is concerned about the impact of steel price increases resulting from upcoming steel import tariffs on further education colleges which purchase the metal for vocational courses such as welding, plumbing, fabrication, and engineering; notes that without support institutions such as Crawley College, whose welding department alone spent £9,774.47 on steel and other metals in 2024-25 academic year, may struggle to cover the steel costs to provide vocational education; and believes that the Government should seek to mitigate the impact of the upcoming steel import tariffs on educational settings through targeted funding generated from the wider implementation of these tariffs and consider centralising the procurement of steel for vocational training.
