Motion text

That this House believes that allowing asylum seekers to work improves integration, allows them to contribute and support themselves, and reduces the chances they will work illegally; acknowledges that those who have claimed asylum in the UK can apply for permission to work if they have been waiting more than 12 months for a decision, provided that their employment is considered high skilled by the Home Office; notes that comparable European countries such as Denmark allow asylum seekers to start working sooner after filing an asylum application than in the UK; and therefore calls upon the Government to allow asylum seekers who have waited more than three months for a decision from the Home Office to work.
