Motion text
That this House recognises Alzheimer Scotland’s Dementia Awareness Week campaign from 1st to 7th June 2026; understands that this year’s theme is ‘Better care, full stop’, highlighting the importance of good quality and consistent care regardless of the stage of someone’s condition or where they live; notes the importance of this message as, currently in Scotland, there is no clear national care pathway for dementia, resulting in early diagnosis being inconsistent, post-diagnosis support patchy, and families and carers under supported; further notes that Dementia Awareness Week aims to shift the public narrative around dementia care in Scotland by increasing awareness of the current issues and generating pressure for positive change; commends the work of Alzheimer Scotland who provide advice, information and support all year round to help ensure people don’t face dementia alone, and all organisations across Scotland who provide support to individuals and families affected by Dementia; further commends the work of Dementia Heroes, a community support group and dementia café based in the University of Glasgow’s Clarice Pears Building, who support people in Glasgow West, and the wider city, affected by Dementia; thanks Alzheimer Scotland for organising this awareness week and wishes them continued success in their work supporting individuals and families, campaigning for better care, and funding Dementia research; and, encourages people across Scotland to get involved and support Dementia Awareness Week.
