FTD brothers

That this House recognises the outstanding courage, resilience and public service of Jordan and Cian Adams of Redditch, Worcestershire, in raising awareness of Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) and supporting dementia research; notes that the brothers experienced the devastating impact of inherited FTD through the illness and the death of their mother, Geraldine Adams, who was diagnosed with FTD in 2010 and sadly passed away in 2016; acknowledges that Jordan and Cian Adams later discovered that they carry the inherited MAPT gene mutation that causes FTD; further acknowledges their extensive fundraising and awareness work undertaken over more than eight years, attracting the world’s attention by Jordan completing the London Marathon carrying a 25kg fridge on his back before flying to Ireland the same day to complete a further 32 marathons in 32 consecutive days in every county of Ireland covering more than 860 miles in honour of their mother’s Irish heritage; further recognises that their fundraising and advocacy have raised £2.4 million; further notes the significant contribution their work has made in encouraging families to seek support, consider genetic testing and seek medical advice; pays tribute to their openness in discussing grief, caring responsibilities and the realities of living with an inherited terminal condition; and pays tribute to Jordan and Cian Adams for their exceptional contribution to dementia awareness, research fundraising and public understanding of inherited Frontotemporal Dementia, wishing them every success in their continuing efforts to improve prospects for future generations affected by this devastating disease.
