Motion text

That this House notes the British Medical Association GP Committee for England's decision to ballot GPs on a Plan B, or an alternative strategy for general practice, allowing GPs greater freedom to provide private services to their patients, following the passing of a resolution at UK LMC Conference that called for the consideration of a means-tested, subscription-based service, such as those being offered currently by NHS dentists; is extremely concerned that any such move would undermine the foundation of the National Health Service in England and would exacerbate health inequalities; further notes the profound impact this would have on the health of people in England and on the functioning of the economy; is further concerned about the rising workloads of GPs in the face of increasingly complex patient need and workforce attrition; and calls on the Government to address the concerns of GPs and ensure the future of general practice in England as a comprehensive service available to all free at the point of need.
