Motion text
That this House welcomes the publication of recent Cancer Research UK funded findings in The Lancet demonstrating the significant success of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination programme in reducing rates of cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases; recognises that the widespread uptake of the vaccine has led to substantial public health benefits, including marked declines in high-risk HPV infections and pre-cancerous lesions, particularly among younger generations; applauds the role of the NHS, public health bodies, researchers, clinicians, charities, and educators in delivering one of the most effective cancer prevention programmes in modern medicine; notes the importance of maintaining and improving vaccine coverage across all regions and demographics to ensure equitable protection; further recognises the value of extending vaccination efforts globally, especially in low- and middle-income countries where cervical cancer burdens remain high; and calls on the Government to continue supporting HPV vaccination programmes, take targeted action to reach communities where uptake is the lowest, undertake public awareness campaigns for the wider population, and support ongoing research to further reduce preventable cancers and improve population health outcomes.
