Toxicity testing on animals

EDM (Early Day Motion) 465: tabled on 29 June 2026

Tabled in the 2026-27 session.

This motion has been signed by 33 Members. It has not yet had any amendments submitted.

Motion text

That this House acknowledges the terrible pain, suffering, distress, lasting harm and death suffered by animals subject to toxicity testing; notes that, under generic service licences, the substance being tested is unknown to those authorising the testing; further notes that the harrowing suffering of many animals subjected to toxicity testing has recently been exposed in devastating footage; recognises that this evidence is routinely hidden from the British public; further recognises that each mini-pig, primate, dog, pregnant rabbit and rat was an individual; commends the bravery and courage of the former laboratory worker who gathered this footage; thanks Animal Aid and Animals International for bringing this devastating footage to national attention; and supports Animal Aid and Animals International’s call for a halt to all new service licences, a review of existing service licences and for the government to urgently deliver its Replacing Animals in Science Strategy.
