Motion text
That this House recognises the national significance of England's FIFA World Cup Round of 16 fixture against Mexico, scheduled to kick off at 1.00am UK time; notes that existing licensing restrictions may prevent many pubs and hospitality venues from remaining open to screen the match lawfully; further notes that such restrictions deny communities the opportunity to come together in support of the national team while depriving struggling hospitality businesses of valuable trade; believes that responsible licensed premises should not be hindered by unnecessary bureaucracy during major national sporting occasions; and calls on the Government to introduce an immediate temporary licensing relaxation permitting licensed premises to remain open for the duration of the England v Mexico fixture, thereby supporting local businesses, fans and the wider hospitality sector.
