That this House congratulates Leicester on retaining the title of England Curry Capital for a further two years, having won 73.6% of the public vote against strong competition from Bradford, Manchester, London and Birmingham; recognises that Leicester boasts cuisines from more areas of South Asia than any other city in England, with restaurants showcasing the flavours and cooking traditions of Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Pakistan; notes that Leicester has the highest number of South Asian restaurants per head of population in the UK, with an average of 47 restaurants per 100,000 people; further recognises that this title reflects the rich diversity of Leicester's communities, each of which has contributed its own culture and culinary heritage to the city's identity; celebrates the contribution that South Asian cuisine makes to England's national identity and cultural life; commends all those involved in the successful campaign to retain this title; and looks forward to Leicester continuing to showcase its outstanding culinary heritage to visitors from across the country and beyond.
