That this House notes with affection that July 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the State Visit of President Nelson Mandela of the Republic of South Africa to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; further notes that President Mandela’s State Visit was the first for a South African Head of State since its return to democracy in 1994 after the collapse of the Apartheid regime; remembers that President Mandela gave an address to both Houses of Parliament on Thursday 11 July 1996; acknowledges the ties of family, shared values and friendship between the Republic of South Africa and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; and recommits itself to furthering the close working relationship between the two countries.
