Motion text

That this House congratulates Eddie Matthews on his retirement as caretaker of Retford Town Hall; thanks him for his many years of dedicated service and for the care, professionalism and warm welcome he has shown to everyone using the building; recognises the important contribution he has made to the civic life of Retford and to the many council meetings, ceremonies and community events held at the Town Hall; notes that Retford’s history of civic buildings dates back to the Moot Hall erected in the Market Place in 1388 and that the present Town Hall was opened in January 1868; acknowledges its distinctive design and historic role in the civic and social life of Retford; further notes that the Grade II listed building remains an important symbol of Retford’s identity and heritage; wishes Eddie a happy and well-earned retirement; and expresses its hope that Retford Town Hall will be protected as a cherished public and community space for the benefit of future generations.
