Border security at Ceuta and Melilla and the security of Gibraltar

That this House expresses grave concern at attempts by large numbers of migrants to breach the borders of the Spanish autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla; reaffirms the importance of maintaining secure international borders and respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of allied nations; believes that any deliberate attempt to weaponise irregular migration against a neighbouring state represents a serious threat to regional security; further believes that these events underline the strategic importance of ensuring the continued security and resilience of Gibraltar; calls on the Government to offer Spain any appropriate assistance requested to strengthen border security and restore order; further calls for a full international investigation into any evidence of state involvement in facilitating or encouraging attempts to breach the borders, including allegations that individuals may have been transported or otherwise assisted for the purpose of destabilisation; and urges the Government to work with international partners to ensure that any state found to have deliberately orchestrated or supported such actions faces appropriate diplomatic consequences.
