Miscarriage care

That this House notes with concern that under current NHS practice most women must endure three miscarriages before they are routinely offered investigation and follow up care; believes that leaving those who have lost one or two babies without referral or care is a grave injustice at a time of acute physical and emotional need; recognises the 2021 Lancet Miscarriage Matters series, which called for support to be evaluated and offered after every loss through a graded model of care rather than withheld until a third miscarriage; further notes that as many as one in five women develop a mental health problem during pregnancy or in the first year after birth, and that pregnancy loss carries a heavy and often unrecognised psychological toll for women and their partners; and urges the Government to end the three miscarriage wait by adopting a graded model of miscarriage care across the NHS and to ensure that mental health support is offered to women and their partners after every pregnancy loss.
