Reported air strikes and civilian casualties in Surab, Balochistan

That this House expresses its grave concern at reports of air strikes in the Goandhan area of Gidar, Surab district, Balochistan, in the early hours of 12 August 2026; notes reports that residential areas were affected and that women and children were among those killed and injured; further notes that at least seven deaths, including women and children, have been confirmed by local sources, while local media report that around 20 people may have been killed and dozens injured; recognises that the full number of casualties remains difficult to establish amid internet and communications shutdowns, curfews and continuing military operations in parts of Balochistan, including Nushki, Mashkay, Zehri, Mastung and Mangochar; also notes that the Pakistani authorities have issued a different account of the incident; believes that the conflicting accounts and reported civilian casualties require an independent and impartial investigation; calls on the Government to make representations to the Pakistani authorities to allow independent international media, human rights organisations and international observers unrestricted access to the affected areas; requests that the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office urge representatives of the British High Commission in Pakistan and relevant Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office officials to seek access to Balochistan and meet affected families, human rights defenders, journalists and civil society representatives; and further calls on the Government to continue raising the protection of civilians and the wider human rights situation in Balochistan in its bilateral engagement with Pakistan.
