That this House expresses its immense sadness at the deaths of PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough, two brave and dedicated Cleveland Police officers, who died in the line of duty on 22 August 2026; further expresses its sorrow for the heart-breaking loss felt by their families and by their colleagues in Cleveland Police; notes with admiration the work of frontline Cleveland Police officers, Police and Community Support Officers and all Cleveland Police staff in carrying on their duties in protecting and serving the Cleveland community despite their pain and grief; further notes with thanks the support for Cleveland Police provided by officers and staff from Durham, Northumbria and North Yorkshire Police; thanks Chief Constable Victoria Fuller and Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Storey for their exemplary leadership at this difficult time; welcomes the support of Cleveland Fire Brigade and North East Ambulance Trust and Great North Air Ambulance personnel in responding to the incident; also notes with pride the response and solidarity of the people of Teesside and their heartfelt expressions of sorrow and for their incredible generosity and that of people from across the entire country in the generous donations to the Cleveland Police Federation fundraising initiative for the police officers’ families; and resolves that this House will remember the two officers.
