Motion text

That this House notes that 8 September 2026 marks the 60th anniversary of the first broadcast episode of the Star Trek television series; congratulates the many actors, writers, producers and technical staff who have contributed to the show's success over the last 60 years, including the many from the UK's creative sector; pays tribute to those of the cast and crew who have not lived to see this anniversary; recognises the significant cultural and scientific impact of the show, including the broadcast of the first interracial kiss on American television in 1968 and foreseeing many of the technological developments that have become commonplace today; and hopes that the ideals and values promoted by the vision of the show's creator, Gene Roddenberry, of a better future, where humanity can peacefully explore the final frontiers of space and science, will continue to inspire future generations of scientists, actors and writers for many years to come.
