Withdrawal of Israeli athletes from the Europe Triathlon in Northern Ireland

EDM (Early Day Motion) 766: tabled on 08 September 2026

Tabled in the 2026-27 session.

This motion has been signed by 3 Members. It has not yet had any amendments submitted.

Motion text

That this House unequivocally condemns the forced withdrawal of four young Israeli athletes from the Europe Triathlon Cup in Londonderry after their participation was strongly opposed solely because they represented Israel; considers this a shameful act of discrimination and antisemitism a stain on international sport in the United Kingdom; rejects the cowardly surrender of sporting principle to threatened protest and disruption; believes that safety concerns must never become a convenient pretext for rewarding intimidation and excluding its targets; finds it chilling that this occurred on the 54th anniversary of the Munich massacre, when 11 members of Israel’s Olympic team were murdered by Palestinian terrorists; calls for an urgent and transparent investigation; and demands that no public funding or future hosting rights be awarded until cast-iron guarantees are provided that Israeli athletes will never again be subjected to such disgraceful treatment.
