Review of Personal Independence Payment

That this House requests that the Review of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) takes account of the findings of the recent Disability Rights UK, Toynbee Hall, and Commission on Social Security co-produced survey of disabled people in receipt of PIP; notes its key findings that disabled people have major problems with the level, criteria, and processes for PIP; understands that there are further concerns arising from co-produced research by Durham University and Disability Rights UK, that the activity trap is preventing disabled people from engaging in sports and recreation for fear of losing access to PIP; further notes that PIP is essential to working-age disabled people both in and out of work; considers that the PIP Review should prioritise designing a fairer system over working to pre-determined financial projections; and recommends that, to pursue true co-production, the Review must fully engage with disabled people’s organisations to shape Review recommendations.
