50th anniversary of Edward Alderton Theatre

That this House recognises and congratulates Edward Alderton Theatre in Bexleyheath on its 50th anniversary; notes that the theatre first opened its doors to the public in May 1976 with a production of Oh What a Lovely War; further recognises that Derek Goulding was the theatre’s first Artistic Director; further notes that the company dates back to 1951 when it was part of the new Adult Education Centre in Brampton Road in Bexleyheath and later named The Brampton Players; highlights that the Theatre was converted from an old fire station and named after local personality Edward Alderton who was the first Principal of the Bexley Adult Education Centre for over 30 years from 1950 and the national president of NALGO, now Unison; also notes the theatre received Charitable Incorporated Organisation status this year; thanks the team of volunteers for their hard work and efforts to keep the theatre running and for organising a fantastic 50th anniversary gala performance in August; and wishes all volunteers and performers all the best for the future.
