Motion text
That this House supports the development by governments and regulators across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland of publicly accessible risk-rating systems for quarries near former mine workings and other legacy mining infrastructure; believes such systems should draw on the approach used to assess coal tips and provide communities with clear and transparent information about potential risks in their area; notes that flooding in the Cardiff community of Gwaelod-y-Garth following blasting at Taff’s Well Quarry on 30 July 2026 caused significant distress and damage; commends the emergency services, local authority workers and all others who supported affected residents; and calls for no further drilling, blasting or related groundworks at Taff’s Well Quarry until an independent survey and full assessment of the site has been completed and published.
