Motion text
That this House congratulates the classmates of eight-year-old Harrison, a pupil at All Saints Church School in Montacute, on winning the Young Hero Award at the BBC Radio Somerset Make a Difference Awards; commends their dedication and creativity in organising and completing a sponsored walk dressed as superheroes while Harrison underwent intensive chemotherapy treatment in London for the rare genetic condition Fanconi anaemia, raising £4,000 for Young Lives vs Cancer; highlights the comfort and solidarity this brought his mother Jess, as the fundraiser meant Harrison could be involved in a wonderful experience with his friends during such a difficult time; further commends the kindness and compassion shown by Harrison's classmates, reflecting the very best of rural community spirit in Somerset; wishes Harrison and his family every strength as he continues his treatment; and calls on the Government to make the UK a world leader in cancer research by bringing forward a Cancer Survival Research Act, placing a duty on Government to coordinate and secure funding for research into the cancers with the lowest survival rates.
