Motion text
That this House expresses serious concern at the appointment of a Russian diplomat to lead the UN's mine-action work, given Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine and the devastating legacy of landmines and unexploded ordnance; notes that Ukraine is among the most mine-contaminated countries in the world following years of Russian military operations; further notes that mine-action programmes are essential to protecting civilians from the dangers of landmines and unexploded ordnance in conflict affected areas; and calls on the Government to urge the UN to ensure the impartiality and independence of its humanitarian operations.
