Motion text

That this House notes with concern the continuing tense situation on the Lebanese border caused by Israel's arbitrary deportation in mid-December, of over 400 Palestinians, in violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention; recalls Security Council Resolution 799 (of 18th December 1992) and further recalls Security Council Resolution 681 (1990) which called on the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention to ensure respect by Israel for its obligations under the Convention, in accordance with Articles 1 thereof; calls upon Israel, the occupying power, to respect its obligations under the Fourth Geneva Convention and to comply with the resolutions of the Security Council; also calls upon Israel, in accordance with international law and Security Council resolutions, to return the deportees forthwith to the occupied territories in order that the peace process, initiated in Madrid in October 1991 and now threatened with suspension, be permitted to proceed, to the benefit of all parties concerned; and urges Israel, finally, to cease all forms of extra-judicial punishment in the territories it occupies and to respect the right of all Palestinians residing in the occupied territories to due process of law.
