PRISON EDUCATION
EDM #959
Tabled 26 November 1992
1992-93 Session
There has been an amendment to this EDM.
That this House notes with concern the Home Secretary's decision to put the prison education service out to tender and that this has led to around 2,000 prison education staff receiving at risk or redundancies notices; notes that in some cases staff have received, and then had withdrawn, up to four notices; further notes that this may be in contravention of the Acquired Rights Directive unless the companies bidding for the tenders honour existing agreements on staff terms and conditions; and believes that prison education should be provided on the basis of high quality educational opportunities not sold off to the cheapest bidder.
