Motion text

That this House expresses concern at the continued use of large scale drift nets by fishermen from other countries; realises that these are not currently in use in United Kingdom fisheries; believes such large scale drift nets to be a destructive and indiscriminate fishery method which causes widespread damage to the marine ecosystem; is especially concerned by the numbers of dolphins and other marine animals captured and killed unnecessarily in these nets with consequent pain and suffering; and calls on the Government to support any moves to ban their use.
