HM COASTGUARD, THE DONALDSON REPORT, RESOURCES AND STAFFING LEVELS
EDM #1547
Tabled 19 July 1994
1993-94 Session
That this House notes the vital work of Her Majesty's Coastguard in both the areas of maritime safety and in safeguarding the coastal environment; supports the Donaldson Report's call for strengthening of Her Majesty's Coastguard; notes the more recent Press reports of impending large scale cutbacks in the resources and staffing levels of Her Majesty's Coastguard; and calls upon the Secretary of State for Transport to make a clear commitment before the recess that there will be no cutbacks in the resources and staffing levels of Her Majesty's Coastguard, as to do so would seriously jeopardise both the lives of those who use the coastline for their livelihood and those who use it for leisure and pleasure.
