That this House is outraged that Japan is still undermining the world-wide, indefinite ban on commercial whaling imposed by the International Whaling Commission in 1986; is appalled that Japan has slaughtered 7,000 whales and over 100,000 dolphins and porpoises during the ban; calls upon Her Majesty's Government to make the strongest possible protest to the Japanese Government demanding their full and immediate compliance with the indefinite commercial whaling moratorium; is appalled to note that the slaughter of whales involves great cruelty as many harpooned whales take several minutes to die; believes that the ban on commercial whaling should be extended indefinitely as it is impossible to slaughter whales humanely; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to press all the delegations at the June 1992 meeting of the International Whaling Commission in Glasgow to agree to a permanent extension of the ban on commercial whaling.
