Motion text

That this House congratulates the organisers of National Infertility Day for raising awareness of infertility as a health need which is presently not properly addressed; recognises the profound psychological and emotional strain faced by couples denied access to appropriate treatment; further recognises that excellent results may be achieved if patients are rapidly investigated and referred for appropriate treatment; is therefore concerned that although one in six couples seek medical help to achieve a pregnancy, fertility is not included in 'Health of the Nation'; is further concerned that treatment is dependent on which part of the country couples live in and their ability to pay for certain treatment; recognises that inappropriate treatment or delay in referrals wastes valuable NHS resources; and therefore calls on the Government to ensure that appropriate treatment, including IVF is provided to anyone requiring it as an NHS treatment.

NATIONAL INFERTILITY DAY (Amendment 1)
at end add 'and draws to Her Majesty's Government's attention the 50 per cent. reduction in male fertility in the past 40 years; notes that half of all infertility issues in families is caused by male infertility; and calls for urgent research into the links between male infertility and the release of oestrogen into drinking water and via anabolic steroids used in cattle.'.
