That this House welcomes the tribute paid to Clayton Middle School in a case study contained in the report Improving Schools published by the Office of Standards in Education on 12th April; notes, however, that such a case study is not comparable to a report issued after a full school inspection and does not obviate the requirement for such inspections to be conducted; trusts parents will bear such matters in mind when they vote in the forthcoming ballot to determine whether Clayton Middle School should become grant maintained; and urges parents to consider the mounting evidence, from Bradford and elsewhere, that grant maintained status is not a quick fix to ending concerns about standards and quality of education available to pupils or the availability of resources to schools.
