MATRIX CHURCHILL EMPLOYEES

EDM (Early Day Motion) 964: tabled on 28 March 1994

Tabled in the 1993-94 session.

This motion has been signed by 173 Members. It has not yet had any amendments submitted.

As this motion is using historical data, we may not have the record of the original ordering, in which case signatories are listed alphabetically.

Motion text

That this House is mindful that the ex-employees of Matrix Churchill have suffered great hardship through no fault of their own; realises that in addition to the stigma attached to the collapse of Matrix Churchill, they have suffered difficulties in finding other jobs, marriage break-ups, financial difficulties and health problems; further, reminds the Prime Minister that when he set out the terms of reference for the Scott Inquiry, he said there would be no limits on the evidence given, and if Lord Justice Scott felt he needed more powers for his inquiry, then the Government would agree; and therefore, calls on the Prime Minister to honour these commitments in the interest of natural justice by asking Lord Justice Scott to receive evidence regarding the collapse of Matrix Churchill from its former employees and to consider whether they should be paid compensation over and above the normal redundancy payment.
