GAS SAFETY
EDM #570
Tabled 09 February 1994
1993-94 Session
That this House notes with concern the contents of the Radio 4 programme Face the Facts on the number of deaths caused by carbon monoxide poisoning from incorrectly installed or unserviced gas appliances, especially in private rented accommodation; recognises the need for increased public awareness of the dangers and more rigorous enforcement of section 11 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 to ensure that installation and regular maintenance are carried out only by Corgi-registered fitters; congratulates the Gas Safety Action Group on its persistence in trying to raise public awareness; calls on the Government to take steps to further publicise the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning and encourage British Gas to do the same; and urges the Government to impose upon landlords a specific requirement to maintain and regularly service gas appliances fitted within their properties.
