Motion text

That this House notes the decision of the Secretary of State for Health to prevent the closure of University College Hospital and her comment that 'there are circumstances in which a managed health market requires intervention'; notes that the persistent refusal of the Secretary of State to take action to offset the effects of the market in the West Midlands has led to a crisis in Birmingham health services and the threatened closure of valued hospitals, the withdrawal of thousands of beds and the loss of over 800 jobs within a matter of months; and calls on the Secretary of State to match her words with actions and to provide the resources Birmingham hospitals need to offset the destructive effect of the market mechanism on local health services.
