Original motion text

That this House believes that the British film industry has a proud history and the prospect of a successful future; regrets, however, that it is competing on an un-level playing field and that it is denied the opportunities which are created in other European countries by tax regimes which positively encourage financial investment in film production and systems of financial support which enable producers of commercially viable films to meet early development costs; notes that in many European countries these schemes appear to have the desired effect of encouraging the production of profitable and popular films at little or no net cost to the taxpayer; urges the Secretary of State for National Heritage to commission an independent report on the schemes of support which exist in other countries to see which are successful and which could be adopted by the United Kingdom; and suggests that he does so before it is too late.
