Motion text

That this House, concerned at the increasing concentration of ownership of national newspapers, views with alarm the prospect of any precipitate arrangement for the sale of Newspaper Publishing plc, publishers of The Independent and The Independent on Sunday; calls on the President of the Board of Trade to ensure that the unique character of these newspapers and their editorial independence is protected in any change of ownership; and urges that all genuine bidders for these viable titles are given proper opportunity to proceed without any artificial rush to merger.
