That this House urges British Rail to give full and thorough consideration to proposals for a Channel Tunnel Rail Link based on a junction at Stratford, and to enter into professional discussions with those proposing the Stratford alternative before presenting their Private Bill to Parliament for a decision.

Leave out from 'House' to end and add 'rejects the argument for a junction at Stratford; notes that British Rail and its Joint Venture Partners have carried out a thorough investigation of all practical proposals for the Channel Tunnel Rail Link based on the needs of passengers; and looks forward to the construction of a link at Kings Cross which will allow the development of international rail services to the North and Scotland.'.

Leave out from first 'to' to end and add 'ignore developer-led proposals to terminate trains from the centre of Paris and Brussels in a London suburb; believes not only that these proposals are quite ridiculous, but also that the developers' uncosted proposals for a tunnel connection from Stratford to central London, not included within the estimate of their costs, are thoroughly misleading; and further urges the British Rail Board to press the Secretary of State to divert to rail investment the ú1,250,000,000 or more earmarked for road construction which has now been cancelled by the Secretary of State, following public consultation on proposals emanating from his Department.'.

Leave out from 'House' to end and add, 'rejects the argument for a junction at Stratford; recognises the superior benefits of an international station at King's Cross to serve the needs of the North East, North West, Midlands and Scotland; and urges the British Railways Board and the Secretary of State to come forward with plans for the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, to maximize the benefits of the Channel Tunnel for the regions beyond London, without delay.'.
